Cape Woolamai is the premier beach break on Phillip Island, Victoria, and one of the most consistent and powerful sand bottom setups in the state. A long, south facing stretch of golden sand produces multiple shifting A frame peaks that can deliver hollow barrels and rippable walls, making it a favourite for intermediate to advanced surfers.
The Break Sections
* Main Beach / Magiclands area: The most popular zone near the main carpark. Consistent lefts and rights over well-formed sandbanks that often throw hollow peaks and clean walls.
* Mid to southern end: A series of shifting banks that can run for kilometres. Stronger barrels and more powerful walls when the banks are firing.
* Anzacs / western end: Additional peaks with their own character; often a bit less crowded and can hold good shape on the same swell.
Best Conditions
* Season: Autumn through winter (April–October) for the strongest and most consistent Southern Ocean groundswells.
* Swell: South-southwest to south / southwest.
* Wind: Northeast to north (offshore).
* Tide: Works on most tides; mid to high often preferred (avoid dead low).
