Padang Padang is Bali’s most famous barreling left hand reef break, often called the “Balinese Pipeline.” Located just south of Uluwatu on the Bukit Peninsula, it produces deep, hollow, high performance tubes over shallow coral when a solid swell hits. Advanced to expert only critical takeoffs and a very shallow end section demand respect.
The Break Sections
* Main Padang Left: The primary peak. Long, accelerating barrels that can offer multiple tube sections before the wave pinches over the final shallow reef ledge.
* Outside / bigger day takeoffs: On larger SW swells the wave starts further out and runs longer with thicker walls.
* Baby Padang (rights): The softer right-hander on the other side of the channel. More forgiving and popular with intermediates and longboarders when the main left is too heavy or not working.
Best Conditions
* Season: Dry season (April–October), peaking June–August for the strongest SW groundswells.
* Swell: South to southwest / west-southwest needs solid size to activate properly).
* Wind: Southeast (offshore trade winds).
* Tide: Low to mid preferred (low produces the heaviest barrels but is more dangerous).
