Pondalowie Bay is the signature surf break in Innes National Park on South Australia’s Yorke Peninsula. A consistent combination of beach and reef peaks that produce both lefts and rights, it is the most popular wave in the park and benefits from reliable summer offshore winds. Suitable for intermediate to advanced surfers depending on size.
The Break Sections
* Main Pondalowie peak: The primary zone near the campground. A fast, hollow left up to around head-high and a longer, walled right that can hold more size over mixed sand and reef.
* Richards: A quality right hand beach/reef peak just north of the main break. Worth checking when the left is working.
* Bay ends / other peaks: Additional shifting sections along the bay that offer options on different swell angles and tides.
Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round, with excellent consistency in summer thanks to prevailing offshore winds; solid SW groundswells also arrive through autumn and winter.
* Swell: West-southwest to southwest / west.
* Wind: East to southeast / east-southeast (offshore).
* Tide: Low to mid preferred.
