Marrawah is Tasmania’s premier northwest surf destination, a remote and powerful stretch of coast fully exposed to Southern Ocean groundswell. The area centres around several high-quality beach and reef influenced breaks that can deliver long, powerful walls and occasional barrels. Intermediate to advanced territory in cold, often empty water.
The Break Sections
* Green Point Beach: The standout and most consistent peak. Long lefts and rights that can run for 100 m+ when the banks and swell align. Host of local competitions.
* Ann Bay / Mawson Bay: Neighbouring beaches with strong lefts off the rocks and additional peaks. Longer rides possible on solid west to southwest swells.
* Nearby options (Lighthouse Beach, Bluff Hill Point): Extra reef and beach sections that work on different wind and swell angles when the main beaches are maxed or onshore.
Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round potential, with the biggest and most consistent Southern Ocean groundswells in autumn through winter.
* Swell: West-southwest to southwest / west.
* Wind: East to southeast / northeast (offshore).
* Tide: Works on most tides.
