Johanna Beach is a powerful, exposed beach break on the western side of Cape Otway along Victoria’s Great Ocean Road. A true swell magnet, it often holds size when spots further east (like Bells) are smaller. Around four kilometres of beach broken up by nearshore and offshore reefs create distinctive sandbanks that produce punchy, high-quality peaks. Best suited to intermediate and advanced surfers due to the power, strong rips and remote setting.

The Break Sections
* Main beach peaks: Multiple shifting lefts and rights over sandbanks stabilised by reef. Powerful A-frames and hollow sections that can pack serious punch.
* Eastern headland left: A more defined left that peels off the point end of the beach on the right swell.
* Outer / bigger day banks: When the swell jumps, outer reefs help organise longer, heavier walls further out.

Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round consistency, with the strongest and most reliable Southern Ocean groundswells in autumn and winter.
* Swell: South to southwest / west.
* Wind: Northeast (offshore).
* Tide: Works on all tides.
