Avalon Point is a left-hand point break over coral reef near Mandurah, about an hour south of Perth on WA’s southwest coast. In an area with relatively few quality waves, it’s regarded as a regional classic a long, walling left that can link into a right at the end longboarders love it. Fickle and needs size, but rewarding when it lines up.
The Break Sections
The point produces a classic peeling left with occasional linking rights:
* Main Point (Avalon left): The primary takeoff. A long, walling left that runs over the reef for 50–150 m (sometimes longer on the best days), offering multiple sections for carving and noseriding.
* Inside / End section: Where the left can join or meet a shorter right coming through, creating fun A-frame peaks or extended rides when the swell is solid.
Best Conditions
* Season: Cooler months (autumn–spring) when larger SW groundswells arrive; summer is often too small.
* Swell: West-southwest to southwest (needs solid size the bigger the better).
* Wind: East to southeast (offshore).
* Tide: Mid to high preferred.
