Jakes Point is a high-quality left-hand reef/point break just south of Kalbarri on Western Australia’s Coral Coast. One of the best waves between Geraldton and Gnaraloo, it produces long, powerful, often hollow lefts that can run 150–300 m along a shallow rocky ledge. It’s a serious advanced wave with a strong local presence and not a place for beginners.
The Break Sections
* Main Point: The primary left. Jacks up off the reef with a critical takeoff, then offers barrel sections and long, rippable walls that can run a long way. Shallow and unforgiving if you miss the drop.
* Jakes Corner / inside: A slightly more forgiving section beside the main peak, breaking over mixed sand and reef. Better option for solid intermediates on moderate days.
* Outer / bigger days: On solid SW swell the peak moves further out and the walls get longer and more powerful.
Best Conditions
* Season: Autumn through winter (April–September) for the most consistent SW groundswells.
* Swell: Southwest to west.
* Wind: East to southeast / northeast (offshore).
* Tide: Low to mid preferred.
