Trigg Beach (Trigg Point) is one of Perth’s most consistent and accessible metro surf spots, located about 20 minutes northwest of the CBD on the Sunset Coast. It combines a west facing beach break with a more defined right hand point/reef section over limestone and sand a reliable high performance option for intermediate and advanced surfers, with fun peaks for a wider range of abilities on smaller days.
The Break Sections
The lineup centres around the Trigg Island groyne and stretches north and south depending on swell.
* Trigg Point (main right): The signature section. A hollow, fast right hander that peels over shallow limestone reef punchy takeoffs and occasional barrels when the swell is solid. Best left to competent intermediate and advanced surfers.
* Beach peaks (south of the groyne & mid beach): Shifting lefts and rights over mixed sand and reef. More approachable on smaller days, offering shorter, rippable walls that work for a broader range of surfers.
* Northern extensions: Additional peaks that form further up the beach when swell and banks align, often less crowded.
Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round, but autumn through winter (March–August) is prime. Winter delivers the biggest SW groundswells; autumn often provides the cleanest combination of size and offshore winds.
* Swell: West-southwest to southwest (best).
* Wind: East (offshore) common in the mornings before the sea breeze kicks in.
* Tide: Mid to hig (rising often best); low tide can make the reef sections shallow and dumpier.
