Scarborough Beach is Perth’s most popular and democratic metro beach break, stretching several kilometres of open sand just south of Trigg on the Sunset Coast. A classic sand-bottom beach break with multiple shifting peaks, it caters to all levels from beginners and longboarders on smaller days to more experienced surfers when the banks and swell line up and is widely regarded as the city’s equivalent of Manly.

The Break Sections
The beach produces lefts and rights across a broad stretch of shifting sandbanks:
* Main Beach / Scabs: The central and most consistent peaks in front of the main car parks and Rendezvous Hotel area. Fun, rippable A frames and walls that work for a wide range of abilities.
* Southern end (toward Brighton): Often slightly smaller and more approachable peaks, popular with surf schools and intermediates.
* Northern end (toward Contacio / Trigg) Can pick up a bit more size and power, linking into the Trigg zone on solid swells, with occasional hollow sections when the banks are well-formed.

Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round. Autumn through winter (April–September) delivers the strongest and most consistent W–SW groundswells; summer offers smaller, cleaner waves ideal for learners.
* Swell: West to southwest (best).
* Wind: East to northeast / southeast (offshore)  typically cleanest in the mornings before the sea breeze.
* Tide: Works on all tides; banks dependent, with mid tide often producing the best shape.
