Martha Lavinia is a world class beach break on the northeast coast of King Island, Tasmania. Swell wrapping around both ends of the island creates perfectly formed A frame peaks along a long stretch of pristine white sand. Widely regarded as one of Australia’s best beach breaks, it delivers hollow barrels and clean walls in a remote, uncrowded setting.
The Break Sections
* Main A frame peaks: The signature zone. Geometric lefts and rights that jack up into hollow, photogenic barrels when the swell wraps correctly from both directions.
* Northern and southern ends: Longer walls and shifting banks that offer more length or different angles depending on swell direction.
* Inside reforms: Softer peaks closer to shore on smaller or fuller tides, still offering fun rides.
Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round potential, with the strongest and most consistent Southern Ocean groundswells in autumn and winter.
* Swell: Southwest (medium to large preferred so it wraps around the island).
* Wind: Southwest to west (offshore due to the beach orientation).
* Tide: Low to mid preferred (high tide can make it too full on smaller swells).
