Byron Bay is a classic right-hand point and beach-break destination on the NSW North Coast, centred around Cape Byron. It’s famous for long, peeling rights at The Pass, sheltered waves at Wategos, and consistent beach breaks at Tallows when the points are quiet.

The Break Sections
* The Pass: Byron’s iconic long right-hand point break. Starts near the rocky outcrop and can peel for 200–500 m toward Clarkes Beach. Mellow entry, long walls, and occasional hollow sections ideal for longboarding and progressive shortboarding.
* Wategos: Sheltered right-hand reef/sand break tucked into the northern side of the Cape. Softer, slower walls that work when other spots are blown out; beautiful setting with less intensity than The Pass.
* Tallows: Long stretch of sand beach breaks south of the Cape. Punchy peaks and A-frames that pick up more south and southeast swell; often the most consistent option when the points are flat.
* Broken Head (further south): Semi-secret right-hand point/sandbar that can produce long, hollow walls on the right swell and wind.

Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round, with the most consistent quality in autumn–winter (April–August) for cleaner winds and organised swells.
* Swell: Northeast to east for The Pass and Wategos; south to southeast for Tallows and Cosy Corner.
* Wind: Southwest to west (offshore for most northern breaks); south for Wategos on certain days.
* Tide: Mid to low at The Pass; most spots work on a range of tides depending on the sand.
