Duranbah is a consistent, high-performance sand-bottom beach break right on the NSW Queensland border, just south of Snapper Rocks and next to the Tweed River mouth. It’s known as the local swell magnet often working when the Gold Coast points are flat and produces punchy A-frame peaks with both lefts and rights.
The Break Sections
The beach is short but delivers quality peaks shaped by the river breakwall and offshore sandbars:
* The Wall (southern end): Wedgy, powerful rights and lefts off the Tweed River training wall. Often hollow and popular with bodyboarders and shortboarders.
* Mid-beach peaks: Classic A-frame peaks that offer fast walls, barrel sections and high-performance turns both ways.
* Northern end (near Point Danger): Slightly more sheltered peaks that can still deliver solid, rippable waves when the sand is right.
Best Conditions
* Season: Year-round, with the most consistent quality from March to September (autumn–winter).
* Swell: East to southeast (picks up more swell than the nearby points).
* Wind: West to southwest (offshore).
* Tide: Works on most tides; mid to high is generally preferred for better shape.
